When I signed up for this race in the fall of last year, it seemed like a really good idea. I was training hard, had just finished the Winnipeg Paramedic Half Marathon, and felt like a million bucks. Then winter came early, the extreme cold weather arrived, and all commitments I had made to running faded away with the sun.
Fast forward to last Sunday. I made a commitment to my running partner that I would go and run the Winnipeg Police Half Marathon no matter what (I have cancelled for the past two years in a row for this particular race). And. I. Did. It. I made it through with zero running training sessions. Zilch. Nada. None. It was not a fast race, and it did not feel good when I finished, but I crossed the finished line.
A week later, and I feel great. It only took three days to recover (to a point where it did not hurt to walk, sit, stand, or get up). I am now determined more than ever to train to run the Dopey Challenge. I don't ever want to feel this much hurt again from lack of training. And so, my training regime is in action. I will start with the basics and build my base. I will run the Dopey Challenge with my friend and running partner in 2016.
Cheers!
